Merit School of Music Class of 2026
It’s graduation season, and I was fortunate to return to my alma mater to celebrate the Merit School of Music Class of 2026. These students impressed me not only with their talent, but with their dedication to the community. Presenting the Volunteer Award to seniors who mentor peers, support events, and assist faculty highlighted the generosity and initiative that make MERIT so special.
More than 30 years after my own graduation, standing on that stage felt like coming full circle. Speaking after my dear friend and mentor, former MERIT president Duffie Adelson, and hearing Ravinia CEO Jeffrey Hayden share how the skills learned through music—discipline, focus, and collaboration—have guided his career, reminded me how deeply the lessons from the practice room shape lives far beyond the stage. His story echoed my own journey and reinforced the value of perseverance, creativity, and leadership.
I’m excited to continue supporting MERIT and look forward to celebrating our community at the Gala in May. Many thanks as well to Charles Grode for his steady and thoughtful leadership.
